Palmetto Landscape is a hardscape and landscape company in Charleston. Nikita Parijenko started it at eighteen and runs it the same way now: turn up on the day we said, finish the whole job, answer the phone before the day is out.
Ask anyone here what went wrong with their last contractor and you get one of two answers. He stopped showing up. He would not give a straight price. We built the company around those two, and everything below is how that works in practice.

Pavers, brick, stone, gravel and oyster shell, on a base dug and compacted to what the job carries: four to six inches under a patio, eight to twelve under a driveway. Fire pits, seating walls and steps built in, and the lawn and beds around them finished by the same crew.
French drains, dry creek beds of river rock, downspout lines and regrading. We find where the water comes from and where it can go before we dig, then put the lawn back over the line.
Privacy where you want it and a clean line where you don’t. Posts go in to depth and the run is strung before anything is fixed, because a fence leaning in year three was installed badly in year one.
Turf that stays green through August and does not care how much shade the live oaks throw at it. It goes over a compacted stone base, so it drains like ground instead of holding water.
Mowing on a schedule you can set your watch by, with every bed edged and the clippings cleared before we leave. Most Charleston lawns want weekly through the growing season and every two weeks once it slows down.
A new lawn, installed start to finish. The ground gets stripped and graded first. Sod over bad ground is still bad ground, it takes a season to show you.
Fresh hardwood mulch, long-needle pine straw or stone, over beds that get re-cut and edged before anything goes down. The line between bed and lawn should look like a decision.
The reset. Storm debris, a season of leaf fall, an overgrown corner nobody has touched in two years, or a property that goes on the market next month.

A week and a half of growth.
A good lawn that had simply got away from the owner, edges gone soft over the drive. Cut, edged and cleared the same morning. The stripes are the mower laying the blade in opposite directions, nothing more than that.

The last tired thing on the property.
Fifteen years old, silvered and split, sagging at one post with pickets missing at the bottom. Replaced with eight feet of stained cedar on plumb posts, boards butted tight and cut level the whole run.

Old mulch broken down to dirt, grass three inches into the bed, shrubs up over the windows. Brick edging set flush, shrubs cut back to shape, fresh hardwood mulch laid deep, and a line between bed and lawn you can read from the street.

Bare sand through the middle, crabgrass standing above whatever grass was left, and ground too rutted to cut evenly. Stripped, graded and laid tight to a straight edge along the drive.

A flat rectangle of grass, and nothing else.
Nothing out there but grass and a fence. Excavated, based in crushed stone and turfed, with travertine pavers set flush into the run and the kitchen, pergola and pool built around it. Green in August, and it drains in a Lowcountry downpour.

Two years, on a street that had moved on.
Waist-high weeds, shrubs over the windows, vines up the brick and the walkway gone. Cut down, cut back, stripped off the wall and hauled away. The house is the same house. It stopped looking abandoned.

Hardscaping, driveways, patios, retaining walls, irrigation and concrete are priced per job. Whatever the work, you get the figure before anyone starts, and it does not move unless you change what you asked for.
Describe the property, or send two photos of it. You get the figure the same day, before anyone drives out to look at it.
We tell you the day before you commit to anything, so you are not holding a price with no schedule attached to it.
Beds edged, clippings cleared, driveway blown off, gate shut. The yard should look finished, not worked on.
Ask and you get a figure the same day. What we will not do is dodge the question, which is the complaint people in Charleston make about this trade more than any other. Size and the state of the property drive most of it, and we will tell you which of those two is driving yours.
A patio, a walkway or a driveway takes a few days, most of them spent on the base. A weekly cut is one visit. Mulch and cleanups are usually a single day. Sod and turf depend on how much ground has to come out first, and fencing depends on the run and the number of gates. You get the number of days with the price, before you say yes.

None that you have to deal with. Spoil and offcuts hauled away, pavers swept, clippings cleared, beds edged, driveway and walk blown off, gate shut behind us. If a neighbor cannot tell we were there apart from the yard looking better, we did it right.
